Software supports HP Integrity OpenVMS servers

Using application-transparent method, RemoteSHADOW[R] data replication product ensures data is continuously protected, updated, and available in case of local production site failure. Software replicates data to captive, enterprise-operated remote site or facility-managed site. With synchronous transfer, data is written at production and remote facility immediately. Asynchronous mode sends data in time-ordered sequence to remote site over available bandwidth.

For Enterprises Choosing HP's Most Popular Server Line for Their OpenVMS Applications, ASCI Assures Continued Reliable Data Replication

PARSIPPANY, NJ - (August 16th, 2005) - Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI), a leading provider of system software solutions that enhance Windows[R], UNIX, Linux and OpenVMS systems, announced today that a new version of RemoteSHADOW[R], ASCI's internationally-used data replication product, has been released for use on HP Integrity servers running OpenVMS. Support for this popular hardware/OS platform gives RemoteSHADOW-and its large complement of multi-national corporate and institutional users-a greater ability to leverage the most current server technology while also retaining the industry's most assured method for maintaining data accessibility in the event of a system or site failure.

HP's announcement earlier this year of OpenVMS v8.2 support for HP Integrity rx4640-8, rx2620-2, and rx1620-2 servers, as well as AlphaServer systems, demonstrated that company's continued commitment to the OpenVMS OS. HP anticipates OpenVMS to be available for the full line of Integrity servers, including the HP Superdome Server, by the first half of 2006.

"Like HP, Advanced Systems Concepts believes in helping its customers stay current in OpenVMS-based systems," said Jim Manias, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. "Our new support for HP Integrity servers enables enterprises-especially those companies using OpenVMS to execute their most mission-critical business services-to continually modernize their architecture and reduce the time to recovery in the event of a system or site failure without the risk of losing data due to technological, human, or natural occurrences."

RemoteSHADOW offers businesses an easy to implement, application-transparent method for ensuring that essential data is continuously protected, updated and available in case of a local production site failure. The software replicates data to a captive, enterprise-operated remote site, or facility-managed site of the company's choice, according to rules set by the enterprise. With RemoteSHADOW, the organization can begin processing within minutes of a failure.

Unlike conventional backup/restore solutions, RemoteSHADOW maximizes performance while minimizing operational costs and system usage through a choice of two data transmission strategies-synchronous or asynchronous. With synchronous transfer, data is written at the production and remote facility immediately. Synchronous transfer is both the most real-time, and the most bandwidth-intensive, alternative for critical data replication.

For deployments where bandwidth cost takes precedence over real-time needs, RemoteSHADOW can also write data to the secondary location using asynchronous transfer. This mode, while always attempting to stay fully synchronized with the production system, applies I/O at the local side when peak periods-either expected or unexpected-occur, sending the data in time-ordered sequence to the remote side over the bandwidth that is available. These I/Os are written within a latency period, measured in seconds, that the business can tolerate, thereby saving the enterprise from purchasing extra bandwidth to accommodate peak load times.

In addition to OpenVMS, RemoteSHADOW supports Tru64 Unix as well as Sun Microsystems Solaris systems.
