SAN FRANCISCO -- NetWorld(R)+Interop(R) 2005, produced by MediaLive International, Inc., today announced that Extreme Networks (Nasdaq:EXTR) will be the premier network hardware provider of the InteropNet event network (eNet), the NetWorld+Interop event network. Extreme Networks has been selected for the sixth consecutive year to provide the backbone of the eNet in addition to delivering its high performance wireless LAN infrastructure for the first time. The network will be built with leading-edge switching solutions that will deliver a secure and highly available network supporting converged applications. NetWorld+Interop 2005 will take place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, May 1-6.
The eNet is built in collaboration with leading vendors and hand-selected products that are ready to meet the ultimate networking challenge. The eNet is implemented as a two-tier network, with a 10 Gigabit core featuring the BlackDiamond 10K switch and an end-to-end Gigabit Ethernet edge that will be protected with Extreme's Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS), providing sub 50 millisecond failover of services on the ring design. The network will be well prepared for delivering converged voice, video and data applications throughout the event.
The access layer of the two-tier network uses Extreme Networks' Unified Access Architecture (UAA) to integrate wired and wireless into a single secure layer that delivers converged applications. The UAA tier features Extreme's BlackDiamond 8800, as well as Summit(R) switches. Extreme Networks will support Wireless connectivity throughout the show floor facilitated with the use of more than 100 Altitude Access Points (APs) supporting B, G and A technology for broadband connectivity. This provides easy Internet access for attendees, exhibitors and visiting media.
"Throughout our twenty-year history, NetWorld+Interop has provided the forum that has driven industry innovation, while attracting vendors and industry experts such as Extreme Networks that are at the forefront of new and emerging technology development," said Lenny Heymann, NetWorld+Interop General Manager. "We are looking forward to another fail-safe network for the InteropNet eNet."
Extreme Networks built its first eNet network backbone for the NetWorld+Interop event in 1999, and ever since, attendees and exhibitors have come to rely on its high performance Ethernet network solutions to deliver seamless operations from the show floor and behind-the-scenes event management, which require a resilient and reliable network infrastructure.
"The eNet network allows Extreme to demonstrate its strengths and networking leadership in a one-of-a-kind, real-world scenario only available at NetWorld+Interop," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president of worldwide marketing for Extreme Networks. "Extreme Networks is again meeting the challenge by delivering the highly reliable network backbone, versatile edge and wireless network to meet the high expectations of the thousands of attendees and exhibitors at the show."
This year's event continues a long-standing tradition of helping IT professionals learn about the latest technology innovations by focusing on six of the most vital technology trends defining the IT and networking industry today: Network Infrastructure and Services; Wireless; Security; Performance; VoIP and Collaboration; and Data Management and Compliance. NetWorld(R)+Interop(R) 2005 will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, May 1-6.
